How We Pay It Forward and Give Back to the Community

Let’s face it. When you sleep better, life is just more enjoyable. That’s one of the reasons we started Weighted Evolution - to improve sleep and make like happier and healthier for as many people as possible. Our responsibly-sourced weighted blankets for improved sleep are made with the finest quality non-toxic materials and craftsmanship. Between the breathable materials, even weight-distribution, and double-stitched pockets to hold our proprietary Sensory Sand, you won’t find a weighted blanket like ours anywhere else on the market.

But we didn’t get into this business just to create the best weighted blanket around.

We got into this business to pay it forward - to help others as others have helped us. There are times in all our lives where someone gave to us out of the goodness of their hearts. And it made us and our lives better. Here at Weighted Evolution, we believe in doing what we can to give back to the community around us - locally and globally.

We’ve always had it in our hearts to help people sleep better and help those struggling with mental health concerns and addictions. Believe it or not, our Weighted Blankets can help in both areas more than you might realize.

When it comes to anxiety, depression, insomnia, and dealing with the effects of addiction recovery, weighted blankets’ benefits can help with their delivery of Deep Pressure Stimulation (DPS).

DPS helps lower your stress hormone, cortisol, while also raising your serotonin (happy hormone) and melatonin (sleepy hormone) levels. The slight pressure of our weighted blankets, whether wrapped around you or lying across your body, delivers a comforting amount of DPS that feels just like an all-over hug. This helps you feel more calm and relaxed, allowing you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Our Give Back Program

From the very beginning, we planned on paying it forward through our Give Back Program. Currently, we donate 5% of our proceeds to six chosen charities and organizations and hope to increase that number as our company grows.

Fit to Recover (FTR)

Located in Salt Lake City, UT, Fit to Recover is a safe space for people in recovery to connect with others dealing with similar struggles. Their primary focus is to help those in recovery bring balance to their lives in healthy ways.

The four pillars of balance they focus on are:

  • Nutrition
  • Community Service
  • Creative Arts
  • Fitness

The group started with a few friends looking to support one another on their road to recovery by exercising and spending time together in a local park. It didn’t take long for the word to spread. Today, the organization sees over 450 people participating in fellowship with others in recovery.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

As one of the largest grassroots mental health organizations in America, NAMI focuses on helping those with mental illnesses live happier, more fulfilling lives. With over 600 local affiliates and 48 state organizations raising awareness to provide the greatly-needed support and education to those needing mental health assistance, NAMI is a powerhouse in the mental health assistance world.

Their values alone tell you a lot about what they stand for:

  • Hope for recovery for everyone
  • Inclusion of every background, culture, and perspective
  • Empowerment through self-confidence, self-efficacy, and service
  • Compassion with respect, kindness, and empathy to all
  • Fairness with a strong focus on equity and justice

NAMI also has a helpline available to anyone who needs to talk to someone about their mental health struggles. The NAMI helpline is open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm ET and can be reached at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264).

To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)

TWLOHA is an incredible nonprofit organization birthed from the founder’s (Jamie) experience caring for a friend struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. He wrote about the five days he spent watching for his friend Renee before she entered treatment. He posted his writings on MySpace and quickly gained a following.

To cover the cost of her rehabilitation, he sold T-shirts. But those T-shirts led to the creation of TWLOHA (the name of his MySpace post).

TWLOHA exists to help those struggling with mental illness and focuses on encouragement, information, inspiration, and investment directly into getting treatment towards recovery.

National Autism Association (NAA)

This nonprofit organization advocates for resources and federal policy to help people and with autism and their families. They provide education, training, and tools to families, schools, first responders, and service professionals.

Their mission is to create compassionate awareness and understanding for people with autism. Through their research, they’ve uncovered critical challenges individuals and families with autism face every day and provide the hope, empowerment, and support they need.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)

AFSP holds “Out of the Darkness” walks around the country to bring those affected by suicide together and give them opportunities to help others who may be struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.

Their mission is to save lives by bringing hope to others. They fund research, improve interventions, provide training for suicide prevention, and advocate for policies that can save others’ lives.

Through their toll-free hotline and texting service, they provide a lifeline to anyone who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. They really are an incredible organization that we are happy to support through our give back program.

This Is My Brave

This unique and creative nonprofit organization started almost by accident after founder Jennifer Marshall began blogging about her struggles as a young bipolar mom. As she shared more and more about her mental illness, she began connecting with others who shared their stories of overcoming the daily trials of mental illness.

One thing led to another, and Jennifer acted on her idea to create a live, in-person performance showcasing individuals who would tell their true stories about overcoming mental illness. The project grew from a single show to several shows throughout the US and even in Australia.

This Is My Brave’s mission is to empower those who have overcome mental illness and addiction by giving them a voice and putting a face to their true stories. We here at Weighted Evolution share in Jennifer’s desire to end the negative stigma surrounding mental health.

We Pay it Forward With Weighted Blanket Donations

Weighted blankets can help those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by lowering cortisol levels at bedtime and delivering a calming sensation. Individuals with PTSD often experience high levels of stress, anxiety, and insomnia. And weighted blankets help in all of those areas.

That’s why another thing we do to pay it forward to our community and help others is to donate weighted blankets to Blankets 4 Vets. We appreciate the Veterans’ service to our country and want to do our part to support them in any way we can. Blankets 4 Vets provides weighted blankets to any Veteran in need of relief from PTSD symptoms.

Our Mission is to Help Others

We’re not in this business for money. Our goal is to help others by manufacturing exceptional weighted blankets to improve sleep and overall wellbeing. We see the value in giving back to the community, and as our company continues to grow, we look forward to doing even more to help others.
